Print text messages without taking screenshots

Screenshots of a long conversation are slow and hard to read. With a backup on your computer, Threadlode prints the conversation in one go, with a date on every day and a time on every message.

Steps

  1. Make a backup: on Android with SMS Backup & Restore (XML), on iPhone with iTunes or Finder (unencrypted).
  2. Open it in Threadlode and choose the conversation.
  3. Optional: set a date range in the Export section.
  4. Click Print / save as PDF and choose your printer.

Tips

  • Choose “Background graphics” in the print options to keep the bubble colours.
  • For long conversations, save as PDF first and check the page count before printing.
  • Names come from the backup (Android: contact names stored in the XML; iPhone: contacts in the same backup).

Questions and answers

Is the printout an official record?

No. It shows what is in your backup, formatted for reading. If you need messages for an official purpose, ask what format is required.
